DATA-READY: First Results and Conclusions from the Survey Research

The DATA-READY project (ERASMUS-EDU-2024-POL-EXP-DIGITAL – European Policy Experimentation in Digital Education) aims to strengthen data literacy competences in compulsory education by supporting teachers and students in understanding, analysing, and using data in a critical and informed way. The project is implemented by an international consortium and involves both primary and upper secondary schools. Staff members of the Institute of Mathematics at UKEN are actively involved in the project, serving as a substantive partner in research and analytical activities.
One of the key outcomes achieved so far is the report D2.1 “Data Literacy Strategies in Compulsory Education”, which analyses educational policies, school practices, and the results of survey research conducted in the partner countries.
What do the survey results show?
The survey reveals that teachers and educational staff perceive data literacy as a key competence of the 21st century; however, its implementation in everyday school practice remains limited. Respondents point to:
- a lack of coherent curricular frameworks for working with data,
- insufficient teacher preparation for data interpretation and analysis,
- limited access to practical training and teaching materials,
- a gap between strategic policy documents and the realities of school practice.
Key conclusions
The survey results confirm the need for systemic support for teachers and for the integration of data literacy competences into curricula. They provide an important foundation for the next stages of the project, including the development of a European Data Literacy Competence Framework, teacher training programmes, and school pilot implementations.
The DATA-READY project aims to develop practical solutions that will help schools effectively prepare students to function in a data-driven society.
